Hitchens here does what few have thus far been able to do: correctly diagnose COVID-ism as a new religion. This explains why the converts to this fundamentalist doctrine are impervious to reason. Religious fanatics never care about facts, and will ignore them. Another thing: history shows us that facts are not the all-powerful disinfectant that many of us naively believe them to be. A totalitarian fundamentalist creed could murder 100 million innocents before being overturned by “the facts”. The people around us also are not as easily swayed by reason and research as we’d like to believe. Instead, they are just one good peer-pressured nudge into supporting and complying with a new fascism, indoctrinating their children into the cult, and joining in the moblike pogrom against heretics. Just look at the venom spewed at those who oppose lockdowns and masks. These people, millions of them, are on the precipice of throwing their support behind a total police state. It should be far more terrifying to us.

This person is an absolute psychopath, utterly detached from reality. COVID-19 poses no risk at all to everyone under 20 who is in normal health. It poses almost no risk any healthy person under 65/70. We have learned much about the virus over the past 8 months. It is not the boogeyman doomsday virus that we were led to believe it was. Despite this, we have actual leaders who refuse to give up their belief in the Doomsday Virus, as you can see below. She is insane on a Heaven’s Gate level, which is frightening because her reality-detached panic will cause many people in her state to panic. This has to stop at some point. The NM governor herself, not COVID, poses a far greater risk to the healthy and well-being of NM residents.

The virus is everywhere.

Civilization is dying, and too few are lifting a finger to prevent it. We are slipping backward toward a mindless and cruel sub-animal existence, regressing away from human rights, from tolerance and freedom. We are allowing ourselves to backslide into a primitive totalitarian mysticism, where viruses are viewed with superstitious and reverential awe, treated as if they are malevolent spirits moving through the air, with our only apparent savior being a totalitarian god-state.
