The 12,000 year old structure, which was only discovered in 1994, is at risk of being totally ruined by its current caretakers. Trees are being planted atop of this ancient temple, 6000 years older than the Great Pyramid of Giza, their roots threatening ruination of the as yet unexcavated portions of the site. Only 5% of the site has currently been excavated, and further excavation is being prevented to ostensibly save the discovery for future generations.
Trees planted on TOP of ancient ruins.
No physical effort to conserve these ruins from the elements.
And outright denial of the circumstances of Gobekli Tepe by those in charge.
Resignations and firings are warranted. pic.twitter.com/fWaC7m2BLL
