I’ve been saying this from the outset: most people are horrible at risk assessment. Unknowingly taking risks with a high probability of death/injury may be a trait that works in our favor in the long run, but when we are bombarded with relentless propaganda about a single moderate threat, we wildly overreact. We would never leave our homes if the news blasted the mortality stats of driving, eating, drinking, walking, etc.
<50 greater risk from work/school commute, and yet people still drive. The HORROR! 🤦
Americans really are bad at math…and logic…and risk assessment.
