COVID hysteria has awoken so much primitive hatred of the “other” among the masses that it now continually needs a new outlet through which to express itself. Now that hatred is being redirected at Russia, and with it all things Russian. Rather than Putin’s war of aggression, all things Russian are under brutal, pitiless assault. The COVID fundamentalists were revitalized in their hate, in the simple and pure purpose behind it, hatred of the unmasked, unvaccinated, unafraid. They reveled in the ostracism that these people endured, and they wished it never to end. Now a new object of hate has emerged, and the newly awakened congregants gleefully redirect their darkness. Just one example: Canada has banned teen Russian hockey players from the Canadian Hockey League. It’s not just Canada. This is what the supposed civilized world is doing to Russian athletes:
- Skiing, volleyball, rowing, badminton federations ban Russian and Belarusian athletes
- Tennis bodies bar athletes from competing under Russian, Belarusian flag
- Adidas suspends partnership with Russian soccer union
Vandalism is becoming widespread at perceived Russian shops around the world. Putin has become the new Hussain, and Zelensky emerging at the hero. The Ukrainian flag has replaced the mask as the symbol to rally around, to discern friend from foe, acolyte from heretic.
We are indeed regressing, taking colossal strides backward in terms of what it means to be human. The pandemic has ushered in a mass psychological reversion, far more permanent that a temporary “mass hysteria”. We are again becoming the animals of our not-so-distant past. The overt bloodlust in the hearts of these new fundamentalists of hate is reaching critical mass. They won’t be satiated until they look upon the ruins of a true massacre.
