You really have to give credit to the power of propaganda, particularly the brand that has been crafted to unleash such economic and political devastation across the country. Almost overnight it has transformed society into a textbook police state. The once-bustling business sectors of major cities are veritable ghost towns, as are mall parking lots, small businesses, churches, schools, et cetera, as everyone cowers in fear of the phantom illness. Superstitious fear has taken root, so much so that many of us are afraid to come anywhere near each other. A true police state has emerged, and local leaders have quickly seized authoritarian power to subject their local communities to any and all lunatic notions of how to handle the virus. The police have been used as the cudgel to enforce these diktats, and so the police state is here.
In response to a politically opportune illness, our Political Class giddily pried open a Pandora’s box. Seeing nothing immediately emerge, they reassured themselves that they had nothing to fear, that no consequences would arise from shutting down society. But something did emerge, what could only be described as an economic nuke, and now its detonated. Invisible, so ignored, yet destroying lives and social fabric nonetheless.
When the smoke clears and the propaganda loses its grasp on the public mind, COVID-19 will have been found to be no more dangerous than seasonal flu, that irresponsible news reporting led to an epidemic of mass panic, and that fudging the number of dead from COVID-19 created a false death toll, and we are going to feel like idiots for falling for the fearmongering again.
