Study: almost half of hospitalized COVID patients have mild or asymptomatic infection

Very important piece in The Atlantic: Our Most Reliable Pandemic Number is Losing Meaning:

“Instead of meticulously looking at why a few hundred patients were admitted to a pair of hospitals, they analyzed the electronic records for nearly 50,000 COVID hospital admissions at the more than 100 VA hospitals across the country. Then they checked to see whether each patient required supplemental oxygen or had a blood oxygen level below 94 percent. (The latter criterion is based on the National Institutes of Health definition of “severe COVID.”) If either of these conditions was met, the authors classified that patient as having moderate to severe disease; otherwise, the case was considered mild or asymptomatic.

The study found that from March 2020 through early January 2021—before vaccination was widespread, and before the Delta variant had arrived—the proportion of patients with mild or asymptomatic disease was 36 percent. From mid-January through the end of June 2021, however, that number rose to 48 percent. In other words, the study suggests that roughly half of all the hospitalized patients showing up on COVID-data dashboards in 2021 may have been admitted for another reason entirely, or had only a mild presentation of disease.”

We need an audit of COVID hospitalizations, and we need to audit hospitals.

Sounds a fascist makes

Sure it’s funny, and the State deserves to be ridiculed, but the violence behind this avatar of authoritarianism is very real, and very dangerous. It’s funny because it sounds so insane, but lets not forget the driving force behind her words.

Just in case anyone forgot how much of a dirtbag George W. Bush is, he reminds us on 9/11

Bush is the founders mutation of modern American totalitarianism. He set into motion the events that we are still struggling with today. He started the unbelievably destructive, pointless mid-East wars that caused so much needless death, suffering, chaos, that millions of people all over the world have had to deal with. And he has the gall to say this crap on 9/11.

Listen to the authoritarians when they’re this honest. They tell you who they are.

I’ve come to the conclusion that people like Wen have been control freaks their entire lives. They hate personal autonomy, and personal liberty, with a vindictive burning passion. It’s not about the virus, it’s the fetish for control that’s on display here. These hall monitor types are everywhere, but most of the time we all try to avoid them. Think back to all the moments youv’e encountered someone like Wen. You feel revulsion, and you want to get away. Want to bet how many people feel this way about Wen who know her personally? Imagine the hollowness of the life of someone like this, the total emptyness. The obsession with control/the hatred of the uncontrolled eats away at whatever spirit is left of the person so infected, until there is nothing left other than a desire to impose control on others. It’s inner darkness projected onto the world.

This is real fascism, people

These words have no place coming out of the mouth of the President of the United States. Biden is inciting mindless hatred against the millions of Americans who have declined to take the sketchy and potentially dangerous pharmaceutical, one that appears to be having very little effect at all. Biden’s language is that of primitive, prehistoric tribalism. COVID is over, it’s endemic, we can treat it, it’s no longer a crisis. But this insidious revolution that has occurred over the course of 18 months will not be reversed willingly. The primitive total State is speaking through Biden. It’s now draping itself in the symbols of this once-free nation and readying itself for the moment that it has full power. If you think Biden is bad, wait until you see who, and what, comes next.

It isn’t the Matrix without Laurence Fishburn

Will I go see it? Sure. But this film will not be a “Matrix” film. The emotional and intellectual glue of the first trilogy was Fishburn’s Morpheus. He articulated what the audience felt at every turn. His character conveyed the passion and obsession of realizing the prophecy of The One. He guided the revolution against the machines, gave it strength and focus. He searched out and found Neo, and guided Neo to his destiny. If a new movie must be made, it should have been a prequel, with Fishburn firmly in the star’s seat. I’d love to see Fishburn awaken from the Matrix, and learn about it, much more than whatever this appears to be.

The Matrix films are primarily about the struggle, journey, and ultimate victory of Morpheus. Fishburn’s Morpheus. This new film appears to be a tragic missed opportunity to meaningfully add to the world created 20 years ago.
