The dangerous insanity of pursuing “zero COVID”

There are many powerful and influential people who have increasingly begun calling for a government policy of “zero COVID”, meaning that government would implement the harshest lockdowns and behavior restrictions possible in order to attempt to reach a point where all COVID-19 cases are eliminated. It’s an insane, unachievable policy, but these people appear to be willing to sacrifice everything to this chimeric goal. Well, they themselves wouldn’t sacrifice. We would sacrifice, as we suffered under Soviet-style totalitarianism for possibly years. Similar to “zero terrorism”, it is an unachievable goal, but it does hand government absolute power for an indefinite period of time.

Jenin Younes writes about the insanity of the zero COVID movement at AIER:

“ZeroCovid promoters appear to agree that much stricter border controls, lockdowns, and mask mandates are needed than exist in most nations today. Sam Bowman, one of the most prominent ZeroCoviders, claims for instance that the only way to address the coronavirus problem is with “lockdowns, school closures, travel bans, mass testing, contact tracing, and masks.” Likewise, former United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair’s think-tank has stated that the only way to avoid another lockdown is to bring coronavirus cases to zero. China, Australia and New Zealand are portrayed as successes by ZeroCovid proponents, and prove that suffering now brings with it the promise of eventual freedom.

While marketing themselves as theoretically opposed to lockdowns, ZeroCovid adherents actually aspire to implement a totalitarian-style state, which we are supposed to believe will exist only temporarily. For example, Devi Sridhar, one of the movement’s most public faces in the United Kingdom, has claimed that the only way out of endless lockdown is a “crude, harsh, catastrophic lockdown” now, the first phase. Given that the third phase of Sridhar’s plan entails an “East Asian and Pacific model of elimination” that prohibits travel abroad, I can only imagine precisely what sort of totalitarian nightmare Sridhar envisions during phase one.”

Madness in the vein of double-masking and social distancing. Instead of doubling down on every failed mitigation measure, we have to trash them all entirely. Far too much has been sacrificed already. It’s time to allow the economy and society to heal from the biggest false-alarm in history.

Why did Republican legislatures never reconvene to reign in their governors?

Daniel Horowitz has an excellent article up at the Blaze, focusing on the question of why the hell didn’t state legislatures immediately reconvene back in March and April when many of their governors began taking unprecedented authoritarian action in order to supposedly combat a virus. Why didn’t the legislatures reconvene in states that saw many cities inflict enormous economic pain almost immediately with forced shutdowns of business, throwing hundreds of thousands of out work almost overnight?

Because they just don’t really care. Many of the Republicans say the right things, but there is no action to back it up. In Michigan, where Whitmer assumed the power of a dictator, and wielded it in you’d expect of a newborn tyrant, the Republican legislature could’ve done something to put a halt to the carnage, but did they?

There is a serious conversation about executive emergency power that is just not happening, but it must, if we’re to avoid a repeat of 2020. These unchecked emergency powers allowed governors and mayors to precipitate the most destructive man-made disaster in history. It was clear that this was going to happen back in March, when governors began announcing their insane shelter-in-place orders for entire states. It was madness, and legislatures should have reconvened and brought in experts with real data, not only on the virus, but also on the short and long-term costs of suicidal lockdowns, and their effect, if any at all, on the spread of the virus itself. This did not happen.

Even here in Oklahoma, cities held captive by Democratic mayors and councils were forced to endure the unnecessary destruction of economic shutdowns with no help at all from the legislature or the governor.

Emergency powers need to be removed entirely, they clearly serve no constructive purpose. Mayors and city councils must be stripped of all emergency powers. No more wanton violation of the rights of citizens. A standardized punishment for abuse of power must be put in place as a deterrent. If this doesn’t happen, elected self-righteous narcissists such as Norman mayor Breea Clark will most certainly abuse their power in the future, and we and our kids will pay the price.

One third of deaths reported to VAERS after COVID vax occurred within 48 hours

From Children’s Health Defense:

“The latest VAERS data show that 799 of the deaths were reported in the U.S., and that about one-third of those deaths occurred within 48 hours of the individual receiving the vaccination.

As is consistent with previous VAERS data reports, 192 of the reported deaths — or 21% — were cardiac-related. As The Defender reported earlier this month, Dr. J. Patrick Whelan, a pediatric rheumatologist, warned the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in December that mRNA vaccines like those developed by Pfizer and Moderna could cause heart attacks and other injuries in ways not assessed in safety trials.

Of the 929 deaths reported since Dec. 14, 2020, the average age of the deceased was 77.8 and the youngest was 23. Fifty-two percent of the reported deaths were among men, 45% were women and 3% are unknown. Fifty-eight percent of the deaths were reported in people who received the Pfizer vaccine, and 41% were related to the Moderna vaccine.”

This warrants an extensive investigation, and an immediate halt to the safety trials for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines in children.

Of course, the entire medical and political establishment is aligned in protecting the institution of vaccination, which means denying all possibility of injury. It’s protecting the public image of the institution of vaccination at all costs. And the costs are mounting.
