Summer soldiers are going to take the credit

Bari Weiss’ recent appearance on Bill Maher has driven home a stark reality: the spineless will now take credit for criticizing lockdowns, school closures, vaccine mandates, and masks. Those who were too afraid too criticize over the past two years, those who knew better, are now singing like birds. Amid the wreckage of the greatest civilizational crisis the West has ever experienced, these pretentious, pseudointellectual second-hand dealers in ideas, are now leaping to the front of the parade, now that they know it’s safe.

I now wonder whether any thinker or hero, immortalized in history, was what the books say they were. Were they heroes, or did they cower behind the real heroes until they knew it was safe? The ability to stand for something even when you stand alone is the defining mark of courage and character. Who among those now speaking out have ever stood alone these past two years?

This doesn’t include everyone now speaking out, but we are on the verge of a wave of newly-converted anti-lockdowners, who will now pepper the media with their slimy mea culpas.
