The construction and use of the El Salvador megaprison, CECOT, would not have happened without a collective admission that, for the problem of mass violence and violent humans that more closely resemble rabid animals, a simple solution exists. A prison colony that will hold habitual offenders for the rest of their lives. No endless debates, think pieces written, books, or hand-wringing. It was simply built, and the thugs, murderers and career criminals were moved in. Now, El Salvador is a safe country once again, but it couldn’t have happened without finally facing the reality that a safe country requires brutal treatment of criminals. The only further step that El Salvador could take is to reinstate the death penalty, so mass murdering thugs like the one described in the video could be executed and forgotten about.
