It’s becoming more clear what all the data centers will be used for: to process the data collected by AI surveillance tech.
This tech is being sold as a way to “make us safer”, but we’ve never needed total surveillance to make us safer. We already know who the criminals are. Our problem is arresting them, prosecuting them, and ensuring they remain imprisoned. The answer is not to treat every single citizen as a suspect. We know how this system will be used. We know how it would’ve been used during COVID, we know how it would’ve been used by Biden against Trump supporters, and we know how it will be used during the next manufactured crisis.
While we can theoretically legislatively prohibit Flock use by police, there is nothing to stop private companies from using it. And many already are. Facial recognition is used throughout the retail industry. We saw during the COVID era that private industry is more of a threat to personal liberty and privacy than government, because private industry isn’t constrained by the Constitution. During COVID, government simply told private industry what to do, and they did it, bypassing the legislative process entirely.
On January 1, 2024 there were 440 flock cameras in the US.
One year later that number was up 10x to 4,511
In January of this year it had increased another 12x to 54,072
And in just the last 8 months it has ballooned to almost 129,000
